**Marilyn Mosby Convicted of Lying on Loan Application**

**Former Baltimore Prosecutor Faces up to Five Years in Prison**

**Greenbelt, Maryland** - **May 23, 2024**

Marilyn J. Mosby, the former top prosecutor for the city of Baltimore, was convicted on Tuesday of lying on a loan application. The conviction stems from allegations that Mosby lied about her income and assets when she applied for a mortgage in 2020.

The federal jury deliberated for two days before reaching a verdict. Mosby faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Her sentencing is scheduled for July 19, 2024.

Mosby, 44, rose to national prominence in 2015 when she charged six Baltimore police officers in the death of Freddie Gray. She was the first prosecutor in the country to charge police officers for the in-custody death of an African American man.

However, Mosby's career has been marred by controversy. In 2020, she was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice in connection with the investigation into Gray's death. Those charges were later dropped by the Maryland Attorney General's office.

The conviction on the loan application charges is the latest in a series of setbacks for Mosby. In March 2022, she was defeated in the Democratic primary for Baltimore City State's Attorney. She is currently practicing law privately.
